Toby Keith is always in regular rotation here at Whiskey On Wax, but upon hearing yesterday morning of the singer’s passing his music has been in our headphones all day. We all have our favorite Toby Keith songs and below is a list of our Top 10 Toby Keith songs of all time.

10. Made In America

Released in 2011, “Made In America” was the first single off Toby’s album Clancy’s Tavern. It hit #1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs and was the last #1 song of his lifetime.

09. I Wanna Talk About Me

Ten years earlier, Toby released “I Wanna Talk About Me” as the second single off 2001’s album Pull My Chain. This was Toby’s seventh #1 single on Billboard’s Hot Country list. The song was originally pitched to Blake Shelton for his debut album.

08. Beer For My Horses

In 2003, Toby teamed up with the legendary Willie Nelson to record “Beer For My Horses”. It was the fourth and final single off Toby’s album Unleashed. The song stayed at #1 for six weeks on the Billboard Hot Country list and reached #22 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

07. Red Solo Cup

Another single off 2011’s Clancy’s Tavern, “Red Solo Cup” is probably one of Toby Keith’s most popular songs. It’s the only song on that album that Toby did not write or co-write and Toby is quoted as saying its “the stupidest song [he] ever heard in [his] life.” Insider magazine named “Red Solo Cup” the worst song of the 2010s decade and while it only hit #9 on Billboard’s Hot Country, it reached #15 on the Top 100 list.

06. Should’ve Been A Cowboy

“Should’ve Been A Cowboy” was Toby Keith’s first single released on his self-titled debut album in 1993. It was also his first #1 single on Billboard’s Hot Country list.

05. How Do You Like Me Now?!

One of Toby Keith’s signature songs, “How Do You Like Me Now?!” was the second single and title track off Toby’s 1999 album of the same name. The inspiration for the song came from one of Toby’s many catchphrases, “You never loved me before, so how do you like me now?” It was Toby’s fourth #1 hit on Billboard’s Hot Country list.

04. American Soldier

Toby Keith was a true American patriot. He loved this country and did not shy away from it in his music. “American Soldier” is one of the many patriotic songs in Toby’s repertoire. It was the second single off his album Shock’n Ya’ll released in 2003. It was another #1 hit for Toby and stayed in the top spot for 4 weeks that year.

03. Courtesy of The Red, White, and Blue

Written in response to the 9/11 attacks in 2001 (as well as inspired by his father’s death earlier that same year), Toby wrote and recorded “Courtesy of The Red, White, and Blue” as the lead single to his 2002 album Unleashed. In a November 2003 interview with CBS, Keith gave his take on the song: “It wasn’t written for everybody. And when you write something from your heart – I had a dad that was a veteran, taught me how precious our freedom is – I was so angry when we were attacked here on American soil that it leaked out of me. You know, some people wept when they heard it. Some people got goose bumps. Some people were emotionally moved. Some cheered, turned their fists in the air.”

02. I Love This Bar

“I Love This Bar” is the first single from Toby Keith’s 2003 album Shock’n Ya’ll. It hit #1 on Billboard’s Hot Country list and stayed there for 5 weeks.

01. As Good As I Once Was

Released as the second single off Toby’s 2005 album Honkytonk University, “As Good As I Once Was” is one of Toby’s longest-running #1 hits. Along with “Beer For My Horses” it stayed at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country charts for 6 weeks. It became BMI’s Song of the Year in 2006 and is one of Toby’s signature songs.
